The History of Tállya

Tállya is one of the oldest settlements in the Tokaj wine region—its vineyards and cellars have been part of the region’s history for centuries. In 2002, UNESCO declared the Tokaj landscape a World Heritage Site, recognising its unparalleled winemaking and cultural value. Tállya’s unique location, stone-carved architecture, and historic character continue to define the spirit of the area today.

Many believe that Tállya is the geometric centre of Europe. For us, it is more of a meeting point: a delicate intersection of past and present, tradition and reimagined quality.

Vineyards

Mád

Szent Tamás vineyard

The Szent Tamás vineyard is one of Tokaj’s most prestigious sites—an essential source of our pure, volcanic wines. Its higher elevation, first-class classification, distinctive minerality, restrained water retention, and cooler microclimate yield concentrated fruit that produces serious yet fresh and vibrant wines every vintage.

At the heart of our Szent Tamás Furmints lies the vineyard’s unique energy: precise acidity, full flavours, and the delicate saline character that has become the hallmark of this terroir.

Mád

Bomboly vineyard

The Bomboly vineyard in Mád is a historically acclaimed, first-class site. Its south to southwest exposure, rhyolitic tuff–volcanic subsoil, and excellent drainage create a microclimate that offers ideal conditions for producing wines that are both complex and balanced.

Our Furmints from Bomboly are distinguished by their refined structure, layered acidity, and long, clean finish—wines that do not boast, yet leave a profound impression.

Tarcal

Mézes-mály vineyard

Mézes-mály is one of Tokaj’s most prestigious and historic vineyards, classified as first growth as early as the 18th century. With its southern exposure and rhyolitic tuff soils, the site’s unique conditions—warm days, cool nights, and balanced water retention—produce outstanding aromatics and natural concentration.

The wines we craft from Mézes-mály are unmistakable in their elegance and texture: delicately mineral, with precise acidity and a long, layered finish. For us, Mézes-mály is more than just a vineyard—it is a benchmark of what Tokaj’s true depth represents.

Tállya

Bányász vineyard

The Bányász vineyard is one of Tállya’s most valuable first-class sites, named after the region’s historic mining heritage. Its deeply mineral, rhyolitic tuff soils, excellent drainage, and south-facing slopes create ideal conditions for producing concentrated wines with outstanding ageing potential.

Wines from this vineyard are recognised for their firm structure, pronounced acidity, and subtly saline finish—expressions of elegance that capture both the raw power and the refined balance of the terroir.
